6th Session of the Human Rights Council

10th - 28th September 2007 -  Geneva, Switzerland

The United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) held its 6th Session from the 10th to 28th September, 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland. While much of the session focused on the final steps of the institution building process, several debates were relevant to the work of Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS). In particular, FAS voiced its concerns and made suggestions during the debates on gender integration into the work of the HRC, on Darfur, and on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).  »

5th Session of the Human Rights Council

11th - 20th June 2007 - Geneva, Switzerland

The Human Rights Council (HRC) held its 5th Sessions from the 11th to 20th June 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland. Among the reports given was one prepared by the Group of Experts on the human rights situation in Darfur. A report on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was to be presented by the independent expert on the situation of human rights in the DRC but unfortunately the session was cancelled. A report on the situation in Somalia was also due to be presented by the independent expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia, but in the event Mr. Ghanim Alnajjar gave only an oral presentation. Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) was able to give a statement during the interactive session on Darfur, and plans to participate in the future sessions on the DRC and Somalia. »

4th Session of the Human Rights Council

12-30th March 2007 - Geneva, Switzerland

The Human Rights Council, which replaced the Commission of Human Rights in 2006, held its 4th Sessions from the 12-30thth March the findings and recommendations of the High Level Mission to Darfur were presented to the Council. An important event for  Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) was the presentation of a report to the Council on the current situation in Liberia which was presented on the 23rd March. »

10th Pre-Summit Consultative Meeting

23rd - 24th June 2007 - Accra, Ghana

In preparation for the 9th ordinary session of the African Union (AU) in Accra, Ghana, Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) and its partner networks organized the 10th AU Pre-Summit Consultative Meeting on 23rd and 24th June 2007. Because the African Union (AU) session was focused on the proposed integration of states under an ‘African Union Government', the key objective of the 10th AU Pre-Summit Meeting was to ensure that women are included in the discussions and consultations for the proposed integration. »

As part of the ongoing ‘Gender is My Agenda Campaign,' aiming to mainstream gender in the African Union (AU), Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) and women's civil society networks in Africa organized the 9th AU Pre-Summit Consultative meeting which took place from January 23-24, 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. »

African Gender Forum

10-12th December 2007 - Dakar, Senegal

The largest regional women’s forum took place in Dakar, Senegal, on 10 and 11 December 2007. The African Gender Forum was organised by Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), its Pan African Centre for Gender, Peace and Development, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Diasporan Touch, the governments of Spain and Italy and numerous other partners. »

Panel Discussion - UNSCR 1325 : When Culture Becomes a Barrier to Gender Equality in Africa 

October is the anniversary month of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. To mark the occasion, the New York office of Femmes Africa Solidarité is hosting a panel discussion on 22 October on gender equality and culture in Africa. »
