Launching Of The African Women’s Decade (2010-2020)

Nairobi, KENYA, 10-15 October 2010

The overarching objective of the African Women's Decade (AWD) 2010-2020 is to review and celebrate progress made towards gender equality and women's empowerment and to articulate concrete actions that should be taken to accelerate momentum in implementation.

The 2010-2010 AWD will be launched in Nairobi (Kenya) between the 10th to 15th October 2010 and will focus on progress made in the implementation of national programmes of AU member states, achievements, gaps and challenges and provide direction where actions and initiatives within implementation frameworks that are in need of acceleration.

The organizing of the event shall be coordinated by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development in collaboration with Kenyan government agencies, The African Union, development partners, civil society organizations, research institutions and the private sector in Kenya. Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) will participate in a Roundtable on UNSCR 1325 which will be held by the African Union on October 13th.

In the spirit of this commitment, the 2010-2020 African Women's Decade is being  co-chaired by:
