Training on "Violence against Women in Armed Conflict Zones" for the National School of Military Officers in Thiès, Senegal.

On June 11, 2009, 54 student officers and 6 employees from l'Ecole Nationale des Officiers de l'Armée (ENOA) de Thiès, Sénégal attended PAC's training on "Violence against Women in Armed Conflict Zones". The group was made up of student officers training to serve in the armed forced of their respective countries (Benin, Burkina, Cameroon, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Mali, Madagascar, Chad, Togo, and Senegal).With the participation of Colonel Dr. Coulibaly Kani Diabaté, specialist in gender in peacekeeping missions, the training aimed to raise awareness amongst the officers on the widespread violence against women during armed conflict.

 The objective was to:

- present and discuss specific aspects of gender and peacebuilding

- clarify terms, definitions, and key concepts of gender

- discuss the various international instruments on gender, including human rights, UN resolution 1325 and 1820, etc..

-  examine gender relations during peace and conflict

- analyze the consequences of armed conflicts on gender roles and their implication on the security of girls and women

- bring awareness on the inclusion of gender notions during the logistical planning

- discuss the importance of the local population during reconstruction, especially the participation of women in peace processes.

- form officer in notions of genders so they may diffuse the information in their home countries
