FAS Elected to AU ECOSOCC as Member of General Assembly

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

31 October 2007

On October 31, 2007, Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) was elected along with seven other continental civil society organisations to the General Assembly of the African Union’s Economic Social and Cultural Council. In total, 150 civil society organisations, working at the national, regional and continental level, and with the African Diaspora, will be elected to the General Assembly.

The purpose of the ECOSOCC is to ensure the participation of African civil society in the policy processes of the African Union. This election victory is especially important for FAS. The voice and interests of women, particularly from conflict and post-conflict situations, will now be heard at the AU-level.
